ORMOC CITY – Ramon Magsaysay awardee on environment, lawyer Antonio Oposa led 11 other Ormocanons in Mayor Eric “Beboy” C. Codilla and the Sangguniang Panlungsod headed by Vice Mayor Nepomoceno Aparis I’s honorees at the Charter day rites October 20.
The recognition was given to Ormocanons who have excelled in their different fields of endeavor for bringing honor and prestige to the City of Ormoc and for serving as an inspiration and model to the rest of the Ormocanons.”
Oposa was recognized for his dedication, commitment and advocacy in working for the protection and preservation of a clean environment, a crucial mission which has earned him the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award.
The others who were honored during the Fellowship night on the occasion of the 62nd Charter Day celebration were:
Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Esteban Conejos for his excellent achievement and capability, as Undersecretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs.
Atty. Gregorio Y. Larrazabal as the newly appointed Commissioner of the Commission on Election (Comelec).
Hon. Wilfredo Rios was recognized of his excellent achievement as vegetable farmer, thereby bringing prestige to the City of Ormoc having been chosen as the “Most Outstanding Vegetable Farmer of Leyte” during the Farmers’ Week Celebration held at the Visayas State University in Baybay, Leyte.
Heliodoro B. Fiel II for his excellent achievement in the field of music, by winning various solo piano competitions held in different parts of the world. Rios graduated valedictorian in Bachelor of Music major in Piano Performance at the University of Sto. Tomas Conservatory of Music in 2007, 1st runner-up 2005 National Competition for Young Artist, 2007 National Champion Piano Teachers Guild of the Philippines, 4th place Piano Festival in Ediza, Spain, another award received in Piano Festival in Italy & at present scholar at The Liszt School of Music Weimar, Germany.
Awardees for sports were Daniel L. Torrevillas for bagging major awards in various competitions locally and abroad & currently the Production Division Champion of Dureza Cup 2009.
Anita M. Koykka for bagging the SilverMedal in World Championships of Masters Powerlifting held in Otrava, Czech Republic last September 29, 2009, holding the current Asian Record in Squat 140kg, Asian & Philippine Open Record in Deadlift 150kg., and Asian Philippine Record 360kg.
Tony Koykka, Limuel Lazarte for bagging the Gold Medal (67.5kg) in Philippine National Championship held at Robinson Otis Manila last July 14-15, 2009 in the field of Powerlifting.
Neal Linoy for bagging the silver medal in Philippine National Championship held at Robinson Otis Manila last July 14-15, 2009 in the field of Powerlifting.
Julie Ann Ramirez, silver medal Powerlifting (52kg) in Philippine National Championship held at Robinson Otis Manila last July 14-15, 2009.
