Solon sponsors Southern Leyte medical-dental mission
Ichon, Macrohon — Hundreds of marginalized families flocked at the newly constructed Saint Joseph Medical Clinic located at Barangay Ichon, as they availed of the health services extended by Congressman Roger G. Mercado of the Lone District of Southern Leyte in partnership with non-government organization, Limasawa Development Foundation (LIDEF).
The Saint Joseph Medical Clinic, which is located at the The Father Justin’s Village, will soon be open to the public. It is owned by The Father Justin’s Vocationist Sisters, who is also managing the Vocationist Formation Center located in the same municipality.
The medical-dental mission served some 242 adults as they were given free consultations and medicines, however, other people attended whose ailments needing further medications and laboratory examinations were referred to the provincial hospital.
On the other hand, 253 children were treated mostly on respiratory problems like coughs, cold and asthma, among others. All of the children were also given free medicines and multivitamins as prescribed by doctors.
Medical doctors coming from the Salvacion Oppus Yniguez Memorial Provincial Hospital (SOYMPH) attended all the people seeking medical attention. While, the Philippine Dental Association – Southern Leyte Chapter also actively volunteered in the extraction of decayed tooth to the relief for almost a hundred of people having problems with their teeth but could not afford to pay tooth extraction from the paying dentist. They also availed of free dental medicines.
The dental association headed by Dr. Collin Puda-Caube participated together with her five dentist members and three dental aides – some were coming from private practice and others connected with the Department of Education (DepEd) to the one–day dental mission.
Later in the afternoon, Mrs. Luz Mercado, the better half of Cong. Mercado gathered three hundred six, malnourished children and were served with hot meal, “pospas” – boiled rice with chicken, to their delight. The children mostly coming from Barangay Ichon and nearby barangays with ages ranging from one year old up to ten years old were accompanied by their parents. (PIA SoLeyte/esg)

i hope those medicines they gave are not fake and
expired. just hoping.
how about the pacific side of the province . do they get this kind of free services
and free feedings for the indigents too.
