Gov. Mercado bares high-end development in Agas-Agas bridge

By Bong Pedalino

MAASIN CITY — The country’s tallest bridge will soon be installed with the country’s longest zip-line facility — and much more.

Aside from the kilometer-long air-borne slide thrill, which is a captive come-on for extreme adventure lovers, the vicinities surrounding Agas-Agas bridge in barangay Kahupian, Sogod, will have matching amenities like hotels, restaurants, even a gasoline station, to cater to the rest and relaxation needs of weary commuters and the travelling public, not just thrill seekers.

This was the futuristic vision shared by Gov. Damian Mercado in a casual chat this week with local media on the sidelines of welcoming the visitors from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

But first things first. Before this very exciting scenery can ever reach first base in actual development, the provincial government would secure a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), said Gov. Mercado.

DENR is the government custodian of the timberland areas around the panoramic view as far as the eyes can see in Agas-Agas, while the DPWH owns the existing peripheral buildings and structures all around.

Gov. Mercado said the proposed MOA would stipulate the province’s intent on developing further the place which may involve a turn-over of the site altogether.

He was optimistic this can be done, citing as example the long stretch of lonely highway somewhere in Luzon which is now dotted with resting and eating places.

As it is, Agas-Agas bridege had attracted quite a number of visitors and curious onlookers — and has continued to attract — ever since it was opened to traffic following a drive-through inauguration by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on August 9, 2009.

With Gov. Mercado’s plan, investors on tourism-related business should now be on their toes for a slice in the pie should the vision becomes a reality soon. (PIA-Southern Leyte)

  1. It’s good to be back (again) where fresh air is, at least, most welcome and free of decaying human body stench. From Afghanistan my team got re-routed to assist Haiti for two weeks to fend off escalating unlawlessness in certain hamlets. We’re back to Base Camp again here in wham-bang, despicable Middle East. That’s why I am here online again.

    Now, @chrsmori :
I sincerely hope you read and fully “COMPREHEND” this message for you. Just by scanning through the exchange of different banter, I can pretty much see for myself that no one is really rebutting your rantings for the candidates you are supporting. While you are “very” strongly expressing your viewpoints via your blantant, very abusive and careless use of capitalized words, other commentators are asking you repeatedly to consider observing certain Internet etiquette. It appears that you continuously disregard said requests.

Please comprehend (or sabta ba) that we really, really understand you for there’s no doubt you are a Lerias/Saludo supporter. We recognize your convictions as we mutually recognize each others’ freedom of speech. However, I believe you must understand that when the freedom of others follows strict rules of expression on a certain media such as this web site, then that also means you too, my dear, should follow said rules.

I have read all your comments – they are all shouting of support rather than in-depth expressions of convictions and reasons of your supporting to said candidates. For the lack of better word, your ranting is almost repeatively baseless and certainly lack context (not to mention the lack of proper English grammar in your sentences). I don’t claim to have perfect English myself, but I really would hate to “splash” across the screen my dysfunctional English and continue to rub it onto the faces of other viewers. If you were in our shoes, you’d feel the same way we do – disgruntled! So, my question is, “Why can’t you ‘uncapitalize’ the words of your sentences? ” Mind you, we prefer to read your viewpoints if they are written otherwise.

Lastly, I call on Jani Arnaiz and/or Eyean Toledo a recommendation to post and implement Internet Rules. If chrsmori continues his/her style of posting (capitalized words), then he/she should be banned from this site. In my opinion, your newspaper’s loss of one commentator cannot equate the potential loss of many who could easily transition their viewership over to SLT.

    It’s your call, chrsmori…

It’s also you call, Jani (or Eyeyan)…
