ORMOC CITY — Inspector Enrico Fevidal Ormoc BJMP Warden disclosed that bjmp Ormoc is one of the recipients for the Therapeutic Communication (TC) Modality Program, a national program and encouraged by the Regional office to be strictly implemented.

It is a Value Formation seminar, attended by 97 inmates started last February 2 and will end on February 6.  This five-day TC seminar is made to boost the moral values of the inmates, who may have neglected to give importance this prime aspect of humanity.

There are four speakers to enlighten the inmates the good side of life, and remind them the importance of religious belief.

According to Supt. Edwin Riel, the BJMP assistant director for administration, the inmates are no longer called inmates but Community Residents, in order to attain Behavioral Change.  “In fact, they now call each other as “kapatid” (brother).”

Inspector Arlene Bacarra from BJMP Region 8, disclosed that so as to attain the goal of this national program, four important topics are online to be discussed with the residents. One is the healing – which teaches the residents that there is still life after the prison cell.  Giving those personal healings that instead of worsening emotional aspect, a renewed person will come out.

Second is the behavioral management, which cannot be denied that some of the residents really have the attitude of being hot-tempered.  Using more of their heart instead of the head, must prevail, especially on some critical instances.

The third is psychological and emotional aspect of humane.  Being away from their family or from their peers means a feeling of oneness.  It is a situation that anyone undergoes difficulty, wherein, through the TC seminar, they are also taught how to easily or gradually overcome.

This is said to be a universal rehabilitation as part of national mandatory program, which needs to be practiced everyday.  One solution on the intellectual side is the existence of Alternative Learning System (ALS) of DepEd which started last year.  Inspector Bacarra added that on the spiritual aspect, they don’t bring religion, but believing on one God as the Supreme Being – for the betterment of all.

The fourth one is the survival and Vocational Skills.  This teaches the residents how to value work and money management.  Another batch will follow next week, to accommodate the 234 residents Ormoc BJMP has at present.
