Maasin City — City Mayor Maloney Samaco received this morning a check in the amount of P 300,000 from Atty. Forter Puguon, Regional Director of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), at the city gymnasium here following the Monday flag-raising rites with city hall employees.
Samaco, upon receipt of the check, likewise turned it over to two women representing twenty (20) beneficiaries of DOLE’s Nego-Kart, or “Negosyo sa Kariton”, program, a livelihood, self-employment undertaking of the agency in coordination with the city government.
The activity formed part of the day’s highlight, the “working youth day celebration.”
Earlier, Mayor Samaco was thankful to the DOLE for the Nego-Kart program in the city, stressing such initiative enhanced the income-generating program of the local government.
He said the DOLE check will be given to the office of the city treasurer who will issue another check worth P 15,000 to each of the twenty recipients of the Nego-Kart program, a financial grant, with certain counterpart funding from the city government.
This is one way in which working youths in the city, especially those who are not accommodated in their quest for employment in the local, provincial and national government agencies, can be occupied, Samaco added.
As DOLE envisioned it, the Nego-Kart will be a side-car type of bicycle handy enough for mobility as the recipient peddles any wares up for sale, his or her stocks loaded in the cart.
Fe Norma Valuis, the DOLE Provincial Officer, informed that another livelihood assistance from DOLE will be turned over again to the city, this time involving starter kit items for any service-based skills or enterprises, like mobile manicure and haircut, among others. (PIA-Southern Leyte)
