City nominates Mayor Samaco as Urban Health Champion: 1000 Cities, 1000 Lives Program

Maasin City, Southern Leyte (18 February) — The City of Maasin through the Health City Initiatives prepares Mayor Maloney Samaco as a nominee for the Urban Health Champion: 1,000 cities, 1000 lives campaign program.
The global movement which encourages to make all cities healthier is in preparation for the World Health Day 2010 to be celebrated on April 7-11, 2010 initiated by the World Health Organization (WHO). The campaign calls upon all cities worldwide to open up portions of streets to the people to promote health activities for one day during the week.
The Healthy City Initiatives led by City Planning and Development Officer Engr. Narciso Othelo Rich and the city officials, submitted a 5-minute video through You Tube to give details why Samaco was chosen as Urban Health Champion.
Samaco’s profile and city’s activities were featured in the You tube presentation. To name a few is the 13-point agenda consisting of market and business improvement, agriculture production, livelihood assistance, orderliness and peace promotion, nutrition and health services, education for the masses, youth development, sports excellence, anti-illegal drug campaign, mangrove and forest protection, advertisement for tourism, concreting and maintenance of roads and overall barangay development.
It also mentioned that when Samaco assumed the stewardship as the city mayor of Maasin last 2007, “he leads by example and thus energized and mobilized all the city officials and employees of Maasin to do what he calls simple service with no strings attached.”
A sports minded, Mayor Samaco also enhanced the camaraderie among the colleges and organized the first Maasin Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MICAA), which hand-in-hand protects the people especially the young ones from the menace of drugs and had reactivated the Citizens Anti Drug Narcotics Unit (CANU) to effectively prevent the curse of drug addiction.
Maasin Healthy City Initiatives also enforced the “no smoking” campaign, one of the issues of PD #856 known as the Code of Sanitation of the Philippines. It prohibits smoking in public places and in order to have a clean city.
The mayor, who seeks reelection on the coming May 2010 polls also initiated an on-going healthy activities celebrating the World Health Day 2010 by closing the portion of Espina Boulevard on Sundays throughout the year to give the people a “smoke and traffic-free” road. A Hataw was also set every Friday afternoon for an hour, participated by city hall employees, students/pupils, the Phil Army, the Philippine National police, the Bureau of Fire Protection among others.
Moreover, to install the importance of discipline and care of the environment, Samaco advocated for scouting. He had produced 5 eagle scouts in Southern Leyte and he became the 1st Wood Badger, an award for scout leaders with the highest rank in Scouting throughout the province.

i have tried to post this message at the southern leyte home this week (guest book section) but unfortunately they didn`t post my comments due the warning i have posted regarding the danger of the H1N1 vacine without knowing that today 30th of april, the southern leyte home site will published an article regarding HINI but just the contradiction to what i have posted.
this is based on my personal experienced with my 2 children and consultations to good friends and family member who works in medical fields.
last year, my two children got from H1N1. imagine, sa grade 3 class sa ako anak 12 out 18 students nangasakit ug hasta pod sa akong 7th grader nga anak 8 out 20. gidala naku sila sa doctor ug unja gi swab ila baba to determine ug positive ba sila sa H1N1. after few hours the result came out positive. i asked the doctor what will be the medication , to my surprised walay special medication kondi tambal lang pang hophop ug hilanat (paracetamol). i asked him, why? mao ni ingon sa amo doctor, nga ang H1N1 is not as dangerous how the media and the WHO publisized it. according to him mas daghan pa namatay sa normal flu diri sa europe kay sa H1N1 which is 100% true. ug masakit ka ug H1N1 magstay lang jud ka sa balay mga at least 1 to 2 weeks kay kusog manakod pareha sa hangga (chicken pox) ug masakit ang bata balaud jud nga dili sila pagawson sa balay. sa tinuod lang mas luja ako mga anak ug masakit sila ug normal flu kay sa nasakit sila ug H1N1. kami sulod sa balay wala man gani mi matakdi hasta ako handicap nga anak kay wala jud mi magpavacinate kay mas dangerous ang long term side effect nga sakit nga imong makuha pohon gikan sa vacine.
my brother in law owns a hospital in bonn, germany. he strongly forbid us not to take the vacine coz it is not necessary. i have a good friend who is a dentist and she has 2 brothers who works as doctor, 1 is living and works in the U.S and 1 works and lives in Scotland. they told my friend to avoid taking the vacination. dili angay kahadlokan kining sakita kay ang kadtong nangamatay sa H1N1 may mga laing sakit to sila.
kabalo ba diha sa pinas nga ang tanang vacination nga gipadala sa third world countries like the philippines mga junked na gikan sa rich european countries? unsaon diri sa europe dili daghan nagpavacine bisan pa free ang vacination namo diri tungod ang mga tawo mostly dili dali mapanick instead gi educate nila ilang kaugalingon party ani nga sakit. ang France milyones ka vacine ang wala magamit kay tungod gamay ra ang nagpa injection, Germany milyones pod wala magamit, Luxembourg, hundreds of thousands tungod kay less than half million raman ang population(small rich country)Belgium, milyones pod, holland mao gihapon ug ubang pang nasud. ang third world countries karon pa mo nakakuha ana nga vacine kay ang wala man na magamit sa rich countries. ang nature aning vacination according to our , dinalidali ra ang test aning vacine ug naay nasagol nga cancer agent ( i forgot the name, will post later). my husband is a very, very health conscious person, that`s why, before hand thorough research jud na sija. think, bisan gani pang labang sabon organic jud amo gamit. kamo diha sa pinas ajaw mo pa injection kay basin pareha mo sa uban diri sa europe namatay prematurely after receiving the vacine tungod kay nacomplicate sa ubang sakit ug dili gani sa masakit mo later on ug mga dangerous nga sakit (like cancer). palihug kalma lang mo, ajaw pagdalidali ug pa vacinate aron dili mo magmahay. i warned all my families since last year and some friends as well.
