DepEd creates division committee on education for all

Maasin City, Southern Leyte (7 July) — In order to attain the goals of the Philippine Education For All Plan of Action here in the province, the Department of Education and other government agencies, international organizations and non-government organizations entered into a Memorandum of Agreement that would identify their roles and functions in the implementation of the said plan.

In a letter from Maasin City Schools Division Superintendent Pedro T. Escobarte, Jr. he noted that the division committee on EFA will organize first the committee and identify its members to ensure the continuity of the EFA job.

The following members were named as follows : Chairman- Dr. Escobarte; co-chaired by Maasin City Mayor Maloney Samaco; Rolando Juanillo of TESDA, PIA Infocen Manager Erna Sy-Gorne, Maasin City Social Services Officer Fe Sta. Cruz, DOST Engr. Dominador Clavejo; and City Agriculturist Amado Acasio were among the few from the government sector as members.

While Dr. Jerome Paler of Gawad Kalinga, Rotary Club of Limasawa-Maasin President Alberto Barola and Naim Ayo from the Muslim Association are representatives from the NGO sector.

It was noted that the EFA division committee shall initiate and coordinate the development, search for funding and implementation of basic programs and projects; review and endorse plans, programs and projects appropriate for the localities and undertake social mobilization and advocacy to ensure success and sustainability of the EFA movement in the locality.

It was also mentioned by Escobarte that the EFA committee will be the one to coordinate the translation of the PPA for EFA 2015 into local blueprints for the BLNs, as mentioned in the letter, taking particular note of the impact of other social sectors on the provision of the BLNs and how basic education can bring about social development and ensure a meaningful interface and complementation between school-based and non-school-based delivery of BLNs especially on the role of local culture and other community actions in bringing about functional literacy.

Furthermore, Esobarte expect that the members will also perform other related functions as may be mutually agreed upon with consultation with the existing local school boards and local authorities in education. (PIA-soleyte)
